What sells well for resellers: categories worth tracking
Published
The best items to flip are ones you understand, that sell often, and that are frequently listed below their usual price. Here are categories many resellers track, and how to set alerts for them.
Phones and tablets
Popular models sell quickly and prices are easy to check. Track specific models and storage sizes, set a floor to avoid cases and parts, and exclude iCloud locked, faulty and cracked unless you repair them.
Games consoles and controllers
Consoles hold value well and are often sold cheaply by people upgrading. Bundles with games can be split and sold separately for more.
Power tools
Branded cordless tools from well-known makers resell steadily, especially as "bare unit" listings. Job lots from trades clearing out a van can be very good value.
Trainers and branded clothing
Specific models and sizes sell; general clothing is slower. Search by model name and size rather than brand alone.
Computer parts
Graphics cards, memory and SSDs have clear market prices, which makes it easy to spot a listing below value.
How to set an alert for flipping
- Check recent sold prices on eBay for the exact item.
- Take off selling fees, postage and the profit you want.
- Set what is left as your highest price on the alert.
- Set a floor at around half of that to filter out junk.
That way every match that reaches your inbox is a listing you could buy and sell on at a profit.
